It’s the Wedding Week Edition of Words of Wisdom! All week long I’m covering a few good things to know before (and after!) you say “I do!” Check out some insight from the good folks below and leave your own advice in the combox!
1) PRAY. Keep your common hobbies and movies, but know that it’s all just extra to what should be the rock of your relationship. Get to know how your sweetheart relates to God – keep Christ at the center by going to Mass and confession together. A successful love connection calls for 100% from everyone in the relationship – him, her, and God.
2) When we first tied the knot, I didn’t realize how much money mattered. But it does. A lot. Check out these two pieces from Dave Ramsey’s website about what newlyweds need to know about money and the bearing money has on relationships.
3) Know when you need to set what you want aside to pursue the general good of your marriage and family. My husband Andrew at Truth & Charity wrote about the fantastic peace in his soul when he was forced to give up what he wanted.
4) Remember: In the situational difficulty of wedding/marriage prep, men like to “fix it” and women like to “talk it out” so just be patient with each other; let him help you fix and be a good listener:
Hilarious as this is, it hits the nail on the head (HA!). Working together calls for a patient ear when troubles arise coupled with the humility to let somebody else help you with your obstacles.
